Proposal

Episode 1: my idea is split into 3 5 minute episodes, the first episode will be based on introducing a single secondary school and two pupils about to sit there GCSE’s and discussing the choices they have made for entering higher education. There are a couple of choices for schoolchildren after they complete their mandatory education in school and this series will be an educational documentary on what awaits them after school. The main choice I am focussing on is the college option and what awaits our pupils as they decide on what subjects to take and which college to attend and the decisions they make and their application process. I am choosing two pupils who are going to the same college but taking different qualifications and in this first episode it will be about what choices there are for the students depending on their projected outcomes for their GCSE’S, my first student shall be taking the BTEC qualification route and my second student shall be taking a host of different A-levels both with the intentions of going to university after college. This is primarily going to be aimed at 14-15 year olds and be an educational experience of what awaits them and to be as informative as possible of what college can offer them as students and adults making the transition between childhood and adulthood, but for as secondary audience this will also be for the parents of the students and will be offering vital information which will give the parents an insight into what choices their child will be faced with. So in summary the first episode will be a brief introduction to a secondary school and two students who currently attend the school and their dilemma of choosing which courses to take when they attend college. Also there will be a more in-depth look at the college the students are to attend and the choices they offer potential students through an interview with the head teacher of the college.

Episode 2: For the second episode we will give an introduction to two students currently in their first year of college, one student shall be studying A-levels and the second shall be studying a BTEC qualification. Through interviews with the pupils, teachers and parents of the teachers we will gain insight into daily life at the college and the aspirations of the pupils and the thoughts of the parents of the students on their Childs choices. In this episode we hope to give an insight into workload of the student and timetables and life at a college which can educate viewers on if college is the right choice for them. We will go in-depth into what the opportunities the different courses offer and we will touch briefly on the possible future of universities

Episode 3: For the last episode we will be focussing on the exam finals of an A-level student and their preparations for these as well as their aspirations for universities and the way the college helps educate the students on university and the help they provide in application processes. The second pupil we will follow in their last year and the grades they need to meet to be given the chance of possible further education at university. This episode will be as informative as possible on the prospect of education in university and the help the college provides on assisting the students in finding their perfect university course. This will provide all the details a student and a parent will need to know to help make their choices after leaving college, this episode will also interview teachers on their views of the courses studied at college and the opportunities provided on helping their child make the choice of going to university. This episode will end on a brief last word from all 6 of the pupils featured throughout all 3 episodes and a brief explanation of what they did next during the credits.
